A 36 year old mother has been arrested by the police of Soroti City East division for alleged murder of her own one and half year old baby boy.
According to Ageca Oscar Gregg, the East Kyoga police spokesperson, the incident occurred at approximately 1:00Am on the night 16th June 2023 at Cell B2 and 3, Campswahili Ward, East Division in Soroti City.
He says, according to preliminary information, the suspect, Rehema Taku went with her son, Salim Nusu to her brother’s home in Campswahili in the evening of Thursday, (yesterday) but was turned away.
Taku then proceeded to the home of her grandmother identified as Maderena Akiding but was also turned away.
The suspect then went back to her brother known as Peter where she was accepted and given a room to rest with her baby.
It’s further alleged that around midnight the baby started crying uncontrollably prompting the mother to move out with the baby after a short while she returned back into the house.
However, the baby immediately cried again something that must have angered her making her go outside where she started bashing the baby’s head against a stone leading to it’s death.
She was restrained and police consequently informed of the incident.
The incident was registered at Madera police station under SD ref:02/16/2023 and the body of the baby is currently at Soroti City Regional Referral Hospital for post mortem pending interment.
