Police in Mbale has confirmed that two of its officers all attached to Field Force Unit, Elgon region were poisoned with one already dead and another in critical condition.
The two police officers identified as Amenyi and Patrick Komaketch were given poisoned chapattis at Busiu Town Council on Sunday, 2nd July 2023.
According to Rogers Taitika, the Elgon region police spokesperson, the two officers while on duty ate chapatti from a yet to be disclosed roadside vendor.
He adds that immediately after eating the chapattis, the two started feeling stomach pain and fever and were rushed to Mount Elgon hospital for testing. The results showed they were poisoned.
Taitika told this website that after getting the results from Mt. Elgon Hospital, the two officers were taken to the Mbale City Police Health Center III where unfortunately one of the officers identified as Amenyi passed on from.
Police also says that Komaketch who is in critical condition is currently at Mbale regional referral hospital as the body of the deceased has been taken to Mulago hospital for postmortem.
