FUFA has on Thursday morning, 2nd November, 2023 unveiled Belgian tactician, Paul Put as the new head coach of the Uganda Cranes.
The 67-year old was unveiled on a two-year deal in a press briefing held at FUFA House.
“FUFA rolled out an application process and we got over 150 coaches including 2 Ugandans who applied for the job. After thorough analysis, the FUFA Executive zeroed down on Mr. Paul Put and we believe he will do a good job.” FUFA President Hon. Magogo says.
He has vast knowledge of African football having worked as head coach of The Gambia, Burkina Faso, Gabon, Kenya, Guinea and Congo.
He replaces Milutin Sredojevic aka Micho who parted ways with FUFA in September this year.
The first task for Put will be the upcoming 2026 FIFA World Cup Qualifiers where Uganda will face Guinea and Somalia with both games to be played in Morocco.
Football enthusiasts are however, already pouring cold water on the Belgian’s appointment saying he was once banned for match fixing.
“Paul Put was banned for three-years by the Royal Belgian Football Association for his alleged involvement in the Ye Zheyun match-fixing scandal,” a Sports fan wrote on Twitter.
Paul Put was banned in Belgium for match fixing that expired in 2011 after being found guilty of fixing two matches while manager of Lierse.
However, Paul took little known Burkina Faso to the AFCON finals in 2013.
