BREAKING! Suspected ADF Rebels Burn Ten People to Death in Kamwenge District

Armed assailants suspected to be ADF rebels have burnt to death at least ten persons in Kyitehurizi village, Kyabandara parish, Kamwenge sub-county in Kamwenge District.

 

The attack took place on the night of Monday, 18th December, 2023 at approximately 2:00AM, past midnight.

 

According to a police statement released today by Vincent Twesigye, the Police Spokesperson for Rwenzori West, the deceased persons include Banyazaki Margaret, aged 60, another identified only as Tugume, a 25-year-old, and eight others yet to be identified.

 

He says that preliminary findings reveal that ten assailants, armed with SMG rifles, attacked and fatally burnt ten people in Kyitehurizi trading center, Kyabandara parish, Kamwenge sub-county, located near Kibale National Park.

 

After the incident, the assailants proceeded to break into the store of Baguma Richard, 35 years old, and looted 300 kgs of beans, a sack of Irish potatoes, 03 trays of eggs, and 50 kgs of maize. They also set ablaze a motorcycle Reg No. UFC 851T.

 

He says the assailants later headed towards Kibale National Park where they are expected to be hiding.

 

“Upon receiving the information, our officers responded to the scene immediately, deploying canine units alongside UPDF Personnel,” Twesigye says adding that a manhunt led by Joint Security Agencies is underway, and further updates will be provided as the investigation progresses.
