A UPDF officer, also a Medical worker attached to Rubongi Army Hospital has died in a fatal road accident that occurred at Atiiri, Mailo Sita along Mbale – Tororo Road in Tororo District.
According to IP Mugwe Johnson Moses, the Ag. PRO, Bukedi South Region, the deceased, Okera Moses, a UPDF officer aged 42years and an Etesot by tribe died on the spot.
Mugwe says, Okera who has been working as a Laboratory technician met his death while enroute to his work place from Mbale at around 3:30PM, Monday, 29th January, 2024.
The accident involved an Actros Benz Truck, registration Number; UAW 263G / UAP 264U black in colour and the motorcycle that was being ridden by the deceased, UEW 821B Bajaj boxer red in colour.
It’s alleged that the rider (deceased) was from Mbale heading to Rubongi Military Hospital in Tororo district where he worked but around Atiri he met the Actros Truck parked in road which prompted him to overtake the same but in the process, there was another vehicle from the opposite direction that was too close and in an attempt to avoid a head on collision, he swerved to the left and rammed into the same parked MV and died on spot.
He says that preliminary findings revealed that the accident was attributed to obstruction by the parked Actros Truck whose driver is on the run.
The Deceased’s body was conveyed to Rubongi military hospital mortuary pending postmortem.
Meanwhile, the Truck and motorcycle are parked at CPs Tororo pending inspection by IOV.
