A Uganda Police Force Rifle robbed on the 12th July, 2023 from Police Constable Onyapidi James at Tororo Municipality has been recovered from Kenya.
This was revealed by IP Moses Mugwe, the Ag. Police Spokesperson Bukedi South in a statement dated 29th January, 2024.
Mugwe says, the Rifle NO: UG POL 861314-09446, was recovered by the Kenyan Police on Monday, 29th January, 2024 after abandoning it in a car they were using.
The thugs had been using the same rifle for robberies in Kenya, however, on this fateful day, police pursued them and in the process they abandoned the car they were traveling in together with the gun.
Mugwe says, the RPC Bukedi South received a call from his Kenyan counterparts that when they checked the abandoned car, they discovered the rifle.
“Upon preliminary examination, it was identified as the gun that was robbed from a Tororo Police Officer,” says Mugwe.
The rifle was robbed from Onyapidi who was attacked while on his way to guard beat at Agururu A zone, Eastern Division, Tororo Municipalit, by thugs armed with pangas who cut him until he fell down unconscious. They then took the gun loaded with 30 rounds of ammunition.
The recovered rifle has been taken to Nairobi for further forensic analysis as Interpol Uganda was contacted to follow up the matter with ESO to coordinate more on the matter.
