The National Unity Platform (NUP) saga involving the current crop of leaders and former Leader of Opposition, LOP seems to be growing by the day.
A letter dated 29th, February, 2024 asked Hon. Mathias Mpuuga to resign his position as Parliamentary Commissioner allegedly for involving himself in corruption when they (Commissioners and LOP) took a decision to pay themselves Service Awards of Shs500M.
The NUP party alleges that while LOP, Mathias Mpuuga alongside other three Commissioners awarded themselves huge amounts of tax payers’ money in the name of Service Awards. In the process, Mpuuga got paid Shs500M after his term of office as LOP expired.
In response, Mpuuga has vowed not to resign his position as parliamentary Commissioner in total defiance of the Party’s stand.
This is contained in a lengthy rebuttal where the former LOP accuses a section of Party members of deliberately character assassinating him.
“I accordingly decline the cowardly call on me to resign as a Parliamentary Commissioner, based on spite, envy and misrepresentation,” says Mpuuga.
Mpuuga also vows to continue raising issues of accountability within NUP which he says is being run as a family business and without transparency.
