BUGISU
Leaders from Bugisu region have in a rare occurrence raised one voice asking government to grant the region a public university.
According to John Faith Magola, General Secretary for Bugisu Parliamentary Caucus also doubling as Member of Parliament Bungokho North County in Mbale district while speaking to our reporter in an exclusive interview on Monday, most of the regions in Uganda have public universities except Bugisu.
He said that if the region is granted a Public University, it will boost education standards and promote science because they want that university to prioritize science courses.
Jackson Wakwaika, the LCV chairperson of Namisindwa district, says that Bugisu region has many private universities but the majority are study centers and other branches.
“We shall be happy if government grants the region the university because it’s going to promote education of higher learning,” Mr. Wakwaika said.
Muhammed Mafabi, the LCV chairperson of Mbale district says that all the five districts and one city across Bugisu region have passed a resolution through their respective councils and have handed it to the ministry of Education demanding a Public university.
Mr. Mafabi said “the region is ready any time to receive a university if granted by the government as requested.”
Kosea Kigai Kimono, the LCV chairperson of Manafwa district says that they have already secured land in Mbale City where the University will be constructed.
He urged Bamasaba to embrace the demand and urged them to join their leaders and raise one voice to government asking for the university.
Kasimu Namugali, the Mbale City Mayor says that as leaders in Bugisu, this time they have raised one voice to government until they get positive results.
Besides leaders asking for the public university in Bugisu, the region has more challenges in the education sector which need serious attention by the government like having few government secondary schools.
