BUTALEJA
Butaleja district local government has received more relief aid for flood survivors in the four sub counties of Butaleja, Butaleja rural, Himutu, and Mazimasa sub counties.
The aid, which came from the Office of Prime Minister on Thursday, 18th April, 2024 included 4000 kilograms of maize flour, and 300 kilograms of beans.
Joseph Owor, the district vice chairman, credited the government for her care, and challenged other humanitarian agencies to consider supporting the survivors with” food”, other than money, arguing that money given to the vulnerable citizens can easily be misused.
He also urged the government to fast track the plan of constructing strong bridges in all swamps where the roads pass. The chairman, however, decried the challenge of putting right most of the roads that have been damaged by the heavy water.
Fred Talugende, the district councilor of Butaleja town council, praised the government for her quick response to the tragedy which moreover killed some people, but complained about its inadequacy, considering the number of people who were affected.
He, however, suggested that by putting tarmac on the Namutumba-Busolwe-Nabumali road, the deadly running water which usually submerges the road will be controlled permanently.
John Mwima, one of the survivors expressed his happiness with the items saying they are going to push them for more weeks since they have been lacking what to eat since their crops were destroyed by the floods.
