A Forest Supervisor at National Forestry Authority attached to Wanende sector, Mabira Central Forest Reserve in Buikwe District has been charged before the Anti-Corruption Division.
Pitua Jude who was arrested by the State House Anti-Corruption Unit was charged on Tuesday, 30th April, 2024 with Neglect of Duty and remanded until 9th May, 2024 when he will reappear for mention his case and possible bail application.
It is alleged that Pitua together with his supervisor, the Sector Manager, Mugumya Philipson, who is still at large, being public officials employed by National Forestry Authority, neglected their duty to preserve and protect Mabira Forest Reserve leading to its destruction and exploitation by encroachers.
Mabira is one of Uganda’s most valuable forest covers which has however experienced degradation from encroachers and illegal loggers.
