Two police officers attached to Lusha police post in Bulambuli district have been arraigned in court and remanded to Mutufu government prison on allegations of hiring out a government firearm to criminals.
The duo who appeared before the Sironko Grade One Magistrate were charged with illegal hiring of government firearms and remanded until Tuesday, next week.
The duo was last week arrested after the discovery of a lost AK47 gun.
After police arrested these two officers last week, our reporter visited the area on Tuesday, 30th April, 2024 and got a number of allegations from community members accusing the two officers of always hiring guns to criminals at Shs7million.
However, the police spokesperson of Elgon region, SP Rogers Taitika didn’t confirm these allegations.
According to Stanley Bayole, the Resident District Commissioner of Bulambuli the two officers; Henry Mangusho who signed for the AK47 gun and Sergeant Wilson Weere, the Officer in Charge of Lushya Police Station in Lushya sub-county were remanded at Mutufu government prison on Monday, 29th April, 2024.
Last week during a press conference at regional block in Mbale city, Rogers Taitika the Elgon region police spokesperson revealed that police recovered that AK 47 gun after the help of the community in its search.
He says that they also recovered 30 bullets and all were untouched.
