President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni also Commander in Chief (CiC) of the Armed Forces has appointed Maj. Gen. Richard Otto as the new Commander of Mountain Division and, thereby, Commander of Operation Shuuja.
The appointment was communicated by the Ministry of Defence and Veterans Affairs on Sunday, 12th May, 2024.
Maj Gen Richard Otto replaces Maj Gen Dick Olum who is heading to the South Sudan Stabilisation Mechanism where Otto has been.
“We congratulate the two Generals on their new assignments and wish them good luck,” says MODVA statement.
President Yoweri Museveni named Maj Gen Dick Olum to take over as Uganda’s new commander of the army’s Mountain Brigade based in the Rwenzori Mountains, at the country’s western frontier bordering the Democratic Republic of Congo in October, 2022.
Maj Gen Olum, who previously served as the defence attaché at the Ugandan embassy in the DR Congo, had a decade ago commanded an operation against Joseph Kony in the Central African Republic.
