The Entebbe Municipality mayor, Fabrice Brad Rulinda has been put underfire after locals accused him of betrayal following continued dumping of garbage at Nkumba dumpsite by management of Kampala Capital City Authority which was given four days to dump their garbage at the said dumpsite.
The four days expired on Monday August 19, 2024 but KCCA has not complied with the deadline.
The Locals told this reporter on Wednesday, August 21,2024, that Rulinda has violated the council resolution which allowed KCCA trucks to dump garbage at Nkumba dumpsite till Monday this week.
In response, Mayor Rulinda said the council resolution still stands and his office has not extended the deadline they gave KCCA to use the Nkumba dumpsite. He added that ever since KCCA started dumping garbage at Nkumba dumpsite, birds have drastically increased in Entebbe region and pose a potential risk to air-crafts.
“The days the council gave KCAA to use the Nkumba dumpsite expired this week on Monday. Though we sympathize with KCCA, they should know our dumpsite is small and can’t accommodate more garbage from KCCA. Birds are hazardous to the airport and if we don’t handle them immediately many airlines pull out their operations at Entebbe International Airport. To allow KCAA to continue dumping garbage at Nkumba dumpsite will enormously affect our tourism and business sector, “Rulinda expressed concern.
