This year’s 62nd Independence Day Anniversary celebrations will be held at Busikho Teachers Demonstration Primary School Grounds, Masafu Town Council, Busia District

The theme is: “Independence Day: A Recommitment to Secure and Fortify Our Destiny.

The Chief Guest will be H.E Yoweri Kaguta Museveni, the President of the Republic of Uganda, who will be joined by another Head of State visiting Uganda for the first time. Protocol will provide further details as soon as possible.

On October 9, 1962, the Duke of Kent handed over Uganda’s Independence on behalf of the Queen. Ugandans gathered at Kololo Grounds to witness the hoisting of the Black, Yellow, and Red flag of Uganda, marking the end of British rule as the Union Jack was lowered.

Last year’s celebrations were held in the Northern district of Kitgum under the theme, “Sustaining a United and Progressive Nation. Taking Charge of Our Future as a Free Nation.”
