KAMPALA
A team of Ugandan golfers were yesterday September 30, 2024, flagged off to Rwanda to participate in the fifth edition of the Africa Regional IV championship. The tournament will be hosted by Rwanda Golf Union this week, in association with Africa Golf Confederation. It will be held at the Kigali Golf Resort and Villas.
According to the tournament organizers, Africa has been divided into five golfing divisions with each region mandated to develop the sport in their respective Regions. The countries in the Africa Region IV include Burundi, Ethiopia, Kenya, Madagascar, Mauritius, while countries in the Reunion are; Rwanda, Seychelles, South Sudan, Tanzania and Uganda.
The Uganda Golf Union revealed that:
“Our team is in a strong position to win the tournament with the selected players having shown good form in the last few domestic events. The Uganda Golf Union is excited to flag off our team today the 30th of September, 2024 to go and participate in this regional event.
“‘The team will be led by Coach -Flavia Namakula. The players are; Joseph Cwinyaai, Joseph Reagan Akena, Joseph Kasozi and Ibrahim Ssemakula. This has been possible with support from our strategic partners and sponsors, the National Council of Sports, the government institution under the Ministry of Education and Sports charged with the mandate to develop, promote and control sports activities in Uganda. The media fraternity has been a great ally in this journey, “Management of Uganda Golf Union revealed.
The team head coach disclosed that the team will return to Uganda on October 7,2024, and will immediately begin preparations for the All Africa Golf Team Championships to be held in Harare, Zimbabwe.
It should be remembered that the fourth edition of the Africa Regional 1V was hosted by Ethiopia Golf Union at Addis Ababa Golf Club, and the Kenyan golf team emerged winners again after retaining the trophy.
