Community members in Namboko Sub County in Namisindwa district have today Tuesday, 1st October, 2024 recovered seven animals which were stolen from neighboring Kenya.
According to Joseph Nambuyila, the LCI chairperson of Bulyuli village who led the team of locals to recover the animals, the animals were found hidden at the home of Paulo Mulongo, one of their fellow residents.
He says that after recovering the animals, they took them to Bubutu Police Post with the suspect to explain how he managed to cross with stolen animals from Kenya to Uganda.
Julie Namara, the Resident District Commissioner of Namisindwa confirmed the recovery of the animals and the arrest of Mulongo saying all are currently at Bubutu police post as instigations go on.
She says that currently cases of cross border cattle theft especially in sub counties neighboring Kenya like Namboko, Bumbo, Bukokho, Lwakhakha town council among others have increased.
Namara urged locals of sub counties neighboring Uganda-Kenya border to be vigilant and report any new suspected unknown person with animals without permit to nearest authorities.
