TORORO
In a landmark ruling, the Tororo High Court Resident Judge has ordered management of Busamba government primary school to allow 13 year old pregnant girl to continue with studies after being chased away.
Justice Henry Kawesa Isabirye made the ruling on Thursday, 3rd October, 2024 after Women with a mission, an NGO based in Namatala, Mbale City petitioned the court on behalf of the girl’s parents.
This year in June, Busamba government primary school management located at Busia district dismissed this 13 year old minor after accusing her of being pregnant.
David Wafula, the father of the minor ran to Women with a mission for assistance such that his daughter can get justice.
The NGO then sued the school at Tororo high court for infringing on the rights of girl child.
While speaking to the media in a press conference at courts view hotel, Betty Balisalami, the executive director Women with a mission said when the girl’s parents approached them for help, they took the matter to Tororo high court and that indeed the Court ruled in their favour.
She says that most schools and institutions of high learning are going ahead dismissing girls who are found pregnant which has affected education of the girl child yet even the government asked the schools to allow pregnant children at school.
Wafula expressed his happiness with the court ruling and the support of the Women with a mission saying his daughter has got justice and will continue with studies although the defiler is on the run.
Wafula says that he has hope in her daughter since she is the only girl child he has currently saying both her future and them as parents are now bright.
He says that as a parent he is ready to support his daughter to continue with studies even after producing the child which she is currently carrying.
