MBALE CITY

Mbale City road users are still in shock after Traffic lights located at the junction of Mugisu Hill Lane, Palisa Road and Nabuynga Rise malfunctioned just two days after they were repaired.

Mbale city allocated Shs8.5M from local revenue for financial year of 2023/24 for repairing those lights due to continuous accidents in the area but works delayed until Asumin Nasike, the Mbale City Resident Commissioner called for a press conference and gave one week ultimatum to Mbale city to work on those lights or cough the money.

Immediately after the press conference, the last week’s repair works commenced and were concluded on Wednesday, 2nd October but by Friday 4th October, the lights had already malfunctioned.

James Nandusi, one of the boda boda riders says that it’s a shame that Mbale city authorities are faking people that they are repairing the lights.

He says that Mbale city might have misused 8.5 million shillings the council passed to repair the money and decided to use less which might have led to the malfunctioning.

Sam Guloba, also a boda boda rider, says that due to none functioning of those lights, not less than ten people, especially boda boda riders have got serious injuries after being knocked by vehicles.

They say that they want Mbale city to come and explain to the public why the traffic lights failed to work just after two days yet they took lots of taxpayers’ money to repair.

While speaking to our reporter today Monday, 7th October on phone, James Kutosi the Mbale city public relations officer says that Mbale City residents should remain calm since the traffic lights have not yet been commissioned.
