A 39 year old lecturer at Bishop Stuart University, in Mbarara, has been charged with causing grievous harm to her 21-year-old housemaid.
According to police, Atwongire Doreen, is said to have poured boiling water on 21-year-old housemaid, Ninsiima Rachael after coming back and finding her child crying.
The incident occurred on September 25, 2024, when Atwongire returned home to find her child crying. She allegedly poured boiling water on the maid when she was trying to explain the reason why the child was crying.
Ninsiima sought medical attention at a nearby clinic and was admitted overnight. She reported the incident to Katete police the following day, leading to Doreen’s arrest on Thursday, 10th October, 2024.
“We strongly condemn the violence and mistreatment of domestic workers. Every individual has the right to dignity, respect, and safety,” reads the Police statement issued by the Police Mouthpiece, ACP Kituuma Rusoke.
