MBALE DISTRICT
The Mbale District RDC, George William Wopuwa has warned government aided schools against sending children back home over school fees.
Wopuwa sounded the warning on Wednesday, 16th October, 2024 at Jewa Town Council during the district’s belated Independence Day Celebrations.
Wopuwa who was chief guest said that poor parents are failing to educate their children at public schools due to high amount of money school authorities’ demand from them.
He says that government put universal education at both primary and secondary with the aim of catering for children from poor backgrounds such that they too can access education.
Wopuwa adds that schools especially those in urban areas demand a lot of money in the guise of PTA which are too exorbitant to poor parents.
The RDC confirmed that they are going to arrest any head teacher who will be found asking money from a student or pupil.
Muhammad Mafabi, the LCV chairperson of Mbale district urged people especially mothers to embrace and get involved in government programs like PDM, Emyoga among others as a way of improving on their household incomes.
