BUTALEJA

The Minister for Labour, Gender and Social Development, Betty Amongi, has urged the Banyole to bury their differences and embrace the installation of a Bunyole cultural leader.

Addressing hundreds of the people who turned up for the get together ceremony of the Bajogo clan in Busolwe, Butaleja district on Sunday, 20th October, 2024, Amongi, thru. Florence Andiru Nebanda, woman MP for Butaleja district, stated that the Banyole have missed a lot of the cake, allocated to the cultural institutions in the country.

According to the minister, Bunyole, would be benefiting from government through loans, grants, bursaries, and health services. But they (Banyole), are lagging behind due to the bickering, which has hindered the cultural leader to be installed.

Patrick Wangudi, the clan president of the Bajogo, reported that his subjects are 35,073, but scattered in Butaleja, Bugisu, Busoga, Buganda and Samia regions.

He further disclosed that he was compelled to call for a meeting, aimed at uniting his people, planning for further development, like forming a co-operative and condemned incest (love between relatives).

Wangudi, also told our reporter that they have a consolidated chunk of land in Busolwe, for the Bajogo to till and kick out hunger in their clan.

Jacob Wangolo, former MP for Bunyole West, challenged other clan presidents in Butaleja to borrow a leaf from Patrick Wangudi, and meet their subjects too.

He strongly condemned the acts of segregation in religions, and in the clans, as he emphasized that “unity is strength”.

He, however, urged the natives to embrace the similar meetings, intent to benefit from the government programs.

This is the first meeting of the kind in Butaleja district.

Also present in the big meeting were: Martin Hayinja, first cultural leader of Bunyole, Eddy Wamushya, prime minister in Bunyole cultural institution, Ben Muyagu, chairman of culture council, Issa Walugo(NRM chairman), Mohammed Hafunjo (Administrative Secretary NRM), and several traditional priests.
