A student at Mbale High School in Mbale City has been arrested on allegations of participating in the increased cases of robberies within the City and its outskirts.

According to the Deputy Resident City Commissioner of Northern City Division, Yahaya Were, Moses Kaseti, aged 18 years was arrested on Sunday, 17th November, 2024 in an intelligence led operation.

He says Kaseti was found with a pair of police uniforms which he has been putting on to rob people masquerading as a police officer.

During the same operation, another person identified as Muhamed Kabuko aged 19 years from a yet to be identified school was also arrested.

According to Were, the student was netted from within Mbale high school premises then the other suspect was picked from Nkoma Ward.

He says the operation follows public outcry about increased cases of theft, robbery, rape, phone snatching among others at Nkoma, Namakwekwe and Central Business District.

Were adds that they waged the operation in all schools and Mbale city outskirts until they trapped the two with their group members who managed to escape.

He says that during interrogation, they discovered that the police uniform belongs to his father working in Mukono as a police officer.

The deputy RCC says that they got them with dangerous weapons like knives, iron bars, opium, and marijuana among others.

SP Rogers Taitika, the Elgon region police spokesperson confirmed the arrest saying the two are being detained at Mbale central police station with their exhibits as investigations continue.

However, getting a comment from Moses Wambalo, the head teacher of Mbale high was futile by press time after all his known phone numbers were off.
