The People’s Republic of China has donated 1,600 Tonnes of rice to Karamoja Sub Region currently experiencing famine.

The donation was made today, Friday, 22nd November, 2024 to the office of the Prime Minister by Chinese Embassy officials.

Speaking at the function, Prime Minister Robinah Nabanja said the donation will be delivered in December this year in response to the hunger crisis in Karamoja that is affecting more than half a million people.

“The hunger crisis in this part of the country is attributed to limited surface water, a hot, arid climate, and a short season of torrential rains that causes soil erosion and land degradation,” she says.

PM Nabanja expressed gratitude to the emergency food assistance that has come at critical time when people of Karamoja are experiencing food insecurity and need urgent relief.
