MBALE CITY
The UPDF has arrested a man who assaulted a UPDF soldier attached to the Special Forces Command while clearing the way for President Museveni last week.
The fight was sparked off between the two when the SFC soldier who was clearing the way for the President’s convoy was met with resistance from locals and in a video which has gone viral, one of them was seen throwing punches at the soldier accusing the SFC soldier of causing jam after stopping motorcycles giving way for the presidential convoy from Soroti to Mbale state lodge.
The incident is said to have happened at Nakaloke trading centre, (Juba stage) a junction connecting Mbale to Sironko.
According to the deputy UPDF spokesperson, Col Deo Akiiki in his statement to our reporter today Monday, 25th November, 2024, the man in the video has been identified as Shaban Wesemoyo, a boda boda tax collector.
He confirmed his arrest saying he will be charged with obstructing security of the President and attacking a security personnel on duty.
The deputy UPDF spokesperson warned members of the public against obstructing soldiers on duty.
He says the Security personnel were deployed to ensure the smooth and safe movement of the presidential convoy, including advising road users to vacate the path.
Akiiki says such acts of obstruction and misconduct undermine these efforts and will not be tolerated.
