MBALE CITY

Stubborn and reckless Sino Truck Driver attached to Tororo Cement Industry became the lone fatal casualty of the late afternoon floods that cut off two major bridges.

Following the continuous rains which have been pounding Bugisu region, Nabuyonga and Nasibiso Rivers burst their banks leading to the overflow of Nabuyonga Bridge along Mbale –Kumi Highway.

In order to mitigate deaths of passengers and pedestrians a security team led by the Mbale City RCC, Asumin Nasike camped at the two adjacent bridges and stopped all movements across the two bridges.

Nasike however, says the Sino Truck driver, not yet identified disobeyed the Traffic Police and attempted to cross the bridge from Kumi side. His Truck was washed into the fast flowing water leading to his death.

RCC says after reaching at the middle of Nabuyonga bridge along Mbale -Kumi road, water over powered the vehicle and took it but fortunately, it was dumped alongside the river although the driver was not saved.

She urged people from the city to avoid crossing flooded rivers as rain continues to avoid other deaths.
