TORORO
The Tororo Municipality Mayor Kenneth Orono Nyapidi has placed himself as the secretary works and technical services and his deputy, Beatrice Achola as Secretary Health and education.
The new placements follow the recent resignations by the Two secretaries of the Tororo Municipal Council, Muhammed Woniaye and Paul Aliboko, who submitted their resignation letters to the Mayor’s office, citing the need to prioritize their electorates and personal livelihoods.
Woniaye, the Secretary for Works and Technical Services and councilor for Kasoli Parish, and Aliboko, the Secretary for Health and Education and Male Youth Councilor, both expressed frustration over their roles.
Aliboko revealed that the positions come with high expectations but lack adequate financial assistance, leaving secretaries vulnerable to their voters’ demands.
East News website has learnt that the Municipal Council members were mobilizing to oppose any new appointments to replace the secretaries until their concerns are resolved.
The new placements come amid tensions within the municipal council, which has been marred by disruptions, including the premature adjournment of a recent council meeting on Wednesday 4th December,2024 Where Clement Ochai, the Municipal Council Speaker, adjourned the council sitting since most of the technical staff were absent.
