Signing of the contract at State House Nakasero

Government has finally signed a contract for the construction of Aki bua Olympic Stadium expected to be finalized in 20 months from the date of commencement.

The signing ceremony took place at State House, Nakasero on Friday, 6th December, 2024 between government and an Egyptian Company, SAMCO.

The event was presided over by the Minister for Education and Sports, First Lady, Janet Kataha Museveni, and Peter Ogwang the State Minister for Sports.

“Deal done! Yesterday, we signed the contract for the construction of Aki bua Olympic Stadium at State House, Nakasero. The contractor-SAMCO is expected to complete works in 20 months” Ogwang posted on his X-Handle.

Work on the construction is set to commence next Monday.

This is one of the major projects President Museveni promised Lango Sub region and Ministry of Finance has already released Shs100 Billion towards the completion of the Shs550 Billion Project.

The government allocated Shs100 billion this year for the construction of the Aki-Bua stadium, which, once completed, will be one of three venues for the AFCON 2027, co-hosted by Uganda, Kenya, and Tanzania.

An earlier cancellation of contarct signing in October, 2024 raised eyebrows with MPs from Lango Sub region accusing government of giving them a raw deal

Sports State Minister, Peter Ogwang later clarified to the anxious Northern Uganda MPs that the signing ceremony was postponed based on the Ministry of Finance’s recommendation to further discuss the financing model, further emphasising that it did not indicate that the construction wouldn’t place.
