Norah Akumu, a nurse attached to St. Valentine Medical Center in Tororo Municipality is currently in trouble for torturing a 9-year-old minor over failure to do house chores.
Akumu a resident of Water village, Western Division in Tororo Municipality is said to have tortured her cousin, a primary four pupil of Rock View Primary School on Saturday, 14th December 2024 for failing to wash plates, lay her bed and wash her inner wears.
The incident came to light after Noah Okumu, the Central parish councillor met the minor crying for help in someone’s veranda in water village with a bleeding and swollen mouth and when asked what happened, the minor told Okumu that she had been seriously beaten by her Aunty Akumu who subjected her to uncountable strokes of canes and when the stick got broken, Akumu resorted to biting the minor.
By the time filing this story, the perpetrated nurse had been summoned at Water village police post in Tororo Municipality to make a statement and while there, Akumu was equally intimidating the police officers, questioning why the officers are bothered by her family matters.
A police officer at Water village police post who spoke to our reporter on condition of anonymity said their first intervention will be to take the minor for medical attention but also refer the case to Tororo Central Police Station for further management.
