President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni has stopped with immediate effect all Bank charges on Parish Development Model (PDM) cash withdrawals.

Currently PDM beneficiaries have been paying between Shs5,000 to Shs20,000 as bank charges while withdrawing their money.

President Museveni issued the directive on Friday, 20th December, 2024 while speaking to hundreds of youth from Elgon region during the Mbale youth symposium which was organized at Mbale secondary school playground.

Museveni made the pronouncement after locals and youth raised their concern over bank charges arguing that at repayment time, they are required to pay back the full amount.

The President in response said that effective immediately, the government is going to pay the bank charges such that PDM Beneficiaries receive full amounts of the money processed.

He said some district and PDM SACCO leaders are using the excuse of bank charges to steal from beneficiaries.

Brian Mawuso, the Mbale city youth chairperson while reading a memorandum on behalf of other youth leaders asked the President to consider them by giving them jobs and capital to improve on their incomes which the President accepted.
