Police in Aminit police post in Bukedea District have been forced this morning 12th, Feb 2025 to fire live bullets in order to block a group of protesters from accessing Aminit sub county headquarters.

The peaceful protest was carried out in order to demand accountability from the sub county leadership.

According to the protesters, the sub county leadership has mismanaged the funds allocated for roads sectors in the financial year 2023/24 to a tune of Shs9m meant to grade Late Gabriel Road which is not yet worked on.

Stephen Ainga, one of the protesters, told this publication that the road is now not passable.

“We want them to tell us where the money has disappeared to because we cannot sit back yet our people are suffering,” said Mr. Ainga.

Mr. Solomon Derick Emong, another protester said the office of SACOA and the local council chairperson connived to sell community trees without the consent of the community members.

“We want to know who authorized them to cut down the community trees and where’s the money”, said Mr. Emong.

After the shooting of the live bullets, the peaceful protest continued after harassment and bitter exchange between angry locals and security personnel.

Mr. James Peter Adok, Aminit sub county chairperson who doubles as head of security at the sub county permitted the protest to proceed saying community members have a right to ask for accountability.

“This protest is good, to let the people know what’s happening at the sub county, my appeal is to respect each person’s views”, said Adok.

Part of the community road allegedly sold by the Sub County leadership to an individual for making bricks

Mr. Robert Cheptoyek, another protester said the sub county leadership also failed to stop an individual from digging the same road for making bricks.

Justine Omuria, Aminit sub county chief says all the sub county projects are connected by the district.

He said the issue of the road fund alleged to be mismanaged was allocated and the district engineer is on ground to kick start the works.

“There’s no money which has been mismanaged, all the funds are on the right use”, said Mr. Omuria.

However, the peaceful protest ended with the sub county leadership given an ultimatum of seven days to work on the roads.
