MBALE CITY: Fake Company Bosses Arrested for Defrauding Unemployed Youths

Over 10 people have been arrested in Mbale city during an operation targeting a non-registered company that was allegedly exploiting young people.

 

The operation was waged on Wednesday, 5th March, 2025 by Asumin Nasike, the Mbale Resident City Commissioner with the help of police.

 

The arrested people are Monday Joshua, the manager, other suspects had not been identified by police by press time.

 

The company known as Canan Victory Dreamers, was operating at Nabuyonga Bridge, near Total petrol station in the Northern city division, Mbale city.

 

According to Asumin Nasike, the operation was prompted by a tip-off from youths who were being trained by the company.

 

The youths reported that they were recruited from various regions in Uganda and were asked to pay between Shs1 million to Shs500,000 each to join the company.

 

The victims claimed they were promised training for one week, after which they would be employed by different companies in Uganda and abroad with attractive salaries.

 

However, two months later, no jobs had been provided, and the youths were facing challenges with food and accommodation.

 

Rogers Taitika, the Elgon Region Police Spokesperson, confirmed the arrests and cautioned unemployed youths to be cautious of fake job promises and to verify the registration of companies before engaging with them.

 

The suspects are currently being held at Mbale Central Police Station.
