Wolves are on rampage in Katakwi killing more 60 sheep at Dadas village, Dadas parish, Akoboi Sub County, Katakwi district hardly a week after residents of Alukucok village suffered similar attack leaving 55 sheep dead.
The latest attack was reported on Friday, 14th March, 2025 where wolves broke into residents’ verandas at night in various homes.
According to Francis Otim, the LC1 Dadas Village, the wolves killed 60 sheep on Friday and adding on the 35 they killed last year, totaling 95 animals from 41 homes since 2024. In Angopet, the wolves killed five sheep.
Otim says the wolves are believed to be coming to the community from the nearby swamps of Otuur and Omuriakori.
According to him, wild animals continue to wreak havoc to Dadas residents citing a local wild animal known as Eciili, which resembles a bull with sharp horns, that killed a 53-year-old villager named David Alemukori at his home last year.
The dog-like animals combed villages of Alukucok, Ogongora, Asutuni in Alukuck parish killing animals, suck their blood, internal organs like liver and leave flesh.
The Deputy Resident District Commissioner Katakwi, says success of the PDM, which aims to improve people’s lives and maintain development, is in jeopardy, he said the circumstances await UWA’s response.
The Uganda Wildlife Authority’s compensation hasn’t worked, so the sheep owners say they intend to protest.
Julius Obukulem, who lost six sheep, and Andrew Okwi, LC1 Secretary, who lost one, pleaded with the government to compensate those whose animals were purchased with PDM funds.
