Jinja District Council Lays Budget for Financial Year 2025/26

Jinja District Council has laid out the proposed budget for the financial year 2025/26, which was presented at Jinja District Hall on 25th March 2025.

 

The council meeting, held at the hall, discussed the proposed budget for the financial year, which runs until 20th June 2026. The total proposed budget amounts to 47,670,993,540 shillings (forty-seven billion six hundred seventy million nine hundred ninety-three thousand five hundred and forty shillings).

 

However of this budget, 29,148,541,776 shillings (61.1%) is allocated for wages, 15,481,260,299 shillings (32.5%) is set aside for non-wage recurrent expenditure, and 3,041,191,465 shillings (6.4%) will be used for capital development.

 

Speaker Namukose Monica stated that the budget has been laid out, and councillors have been given time to review and suggest changes. The budget, which was drafted by the District Executive Committee (DEC), has been sent to the committees for review before it is finalized.

 

Jinja District Chairman, Batwala Moses explained that the budget includes all district expenses, such as health, environment, Education, Administration and other services.

 

He thanked the councillors for their good work and acknowledged the Minister of Finance for organizing and preparing the budget. He also expressed gratitude to the central government for facilitating the district, as it does not generate local revenue.

 

Batwala further stated that the community can expect improvements in infrastructure, including more roads, boreholes, and other developments.

 

The councilors in the council accepted the proposed budget and agreed to take them to the different committees for review before final approval.
