The Uganda Police Force has deployed five senior officers to South Sudan for a one-year United Nations peacekeeping mission under UNMISS.
Following a selection process that originally had 25, the officers were flagged off on March 28, 2025, and will officially begin their duties on March 30.
During the send-off, Deputy Director of Operations CP Okoshi Simon Peter urged them to uphold discipline, integrity, and patriotism while representing Uganda. He also encouraged maintaining family connections despite the sacrifices involved.
The 5 were part of the 25 officers who underwent the first-ever UN Police Job-Specific pre-deployment training in Uganda and Africa held from November 18 to 29, 2024.
The training equipped 25 Uganda Police officers with the necessary knowledge and skills for their upcoming deployment to the United Nations Mission in South Sudan (UNMISS).
The officers, who passed the UN Police Interviews in January 2024, underwent rigorous training at the Police’s Field Force Training base in Kikandwa Wakiso. The training program included a mandatory Strategic Guidance Framework (SGF) training, a pre-test, and a two-week training session. Trainers were drawn from Uganda, Ghana, Malawi, Gambia, and New York.
