A serious accident occurred on Monday, 7th April, 2025 at around 8:00 PM in Kadama Township, Kibuku district along the Mbale-Iganga highway.

The incident involved a motor vehicle, a blue Isuzu Elf with registration number UBR 851F, driven by 62-year-old Waiswa Mohammed, and a red Bajaj Boxer motorcycle with registration number UFH 006H, ridden by 24-year-old Kirya Charles.

The vehicle lost control and knocked dead Charles Kirya who was riding a motorcycle and customer only known as Beatrice.

According to Moses Kitiyo Mwanga, the Bukedi North region police commander, both vehicles were traveling in the same direction, from Iganga to Mbale, with the motorcycle following the vehicle from behind.

He says as they approached Kadama Town, the vehicle slowed down to navigate over speed humps, and the motorcycle, failing to keep a safe distance, collided with the vehicle.

He says the accident was caused by reckless riding, specifically failing to keep a safe distance.

This incident highlights concerns about road safety in the region. According to the Police Annual Crime & Traffic Report, an average of 12 people die in road crashes daily in Uganda. The authorities continue to urge motorists to exercise caution and follow traffic rules to prevent such accidents
