KIBUKU
A devastating accident occurred on May 1, 2025, near the Tirinyi police station along the Iganga-Mbale highway in Kibuku district.
The Two vehicles, a Toyota Hiace (UBN 750D) and a Fuso Fighter (UBG 441P), were involved in the collision.
According to Wilfred Kyapasa, the Bukedi North region police spokesperson, eyewitnesses say the Fuso Fighter was parked along the roadside, facing Mbale, and was being loaded with papyrus.
He says the Toyota Hiace, traveling from Iganga towards Mbale, knocked into the rear of the Fuso Fighter, resulting in significant damage to both vehicles.
Kyapasa says the accident claimed the lives of two male adults, one female adult, and two female juveniles that were travelling in the Taxi. Five others were injured and admitted to various health centers.
The PRO confirmed that the particulars of the victims are yet to be established.
The scene was visited by police officers from Kibuku police station, who drew a rough sketch plan and took photographs.
He says both vehicles were towed to Tirinyi police station pending inspection. The bodies were taken to Mbale city mortuary for post-mortem examination.
Police say preliminary investigations suggest that reckless driving, specifically over speeding, by the driver of the Toyota Hiace was the cause of the accident.
