It has been confirmed that Rajiv Ruparelia, son of tycoon Sudhir Ruparelia has burnt to death in a nasty accident that occurred at 2:44AM on Saturday morning, 3rd May, 2025.
According to abrief statement from police, the single fatal crash occurred at the Busabala Flyover traffic lights, located in Makindye-Ssabagabo, Wakiso District.
The crash involved a Nissan GTR motor vehicle registration number UAT 638L, which was travelling from Kajjansi towards Munyonyo.
Preliminary investigations indicate that the driver lost control of the vehicle after colliding with temporary pavements installed at the roundabout section of the flyover.
The vehicle subsequently overturned and caught fire, leading to the instant death of the driver, identified as Mr. Rajiv Ruparelia.
Police says the exact cause of the crash has not yet been determined adding that investigations are underway.
“The family of Sudhir and Jyotsna Ruparelia would like to inform all family, friends and in-laws of the sudden death of their son, Rajiv Ruparelia. Rajiv died in a car accident at 2.44am,” reads a family message.
He was 35 years old and is survived by a daughter of three years.
The accident has left many citizens questioning the rationale of placing temporary pavements at night at the spot.
“During the daytime, there are no visible barriers, but strangely at night barriers are placed without any warning signs. This is misleading and dangerous, especially for those familiar with the road during daylight,” posted one of the road users.
The Uganda Police Fire Brigade responded promptly. The OC of Kibiri Police Post, ASP Mutoni Elinar, and ASP Asiimwe Colleb, OC Operations at Katwe Police Station, were both present at the scene.
