KIBUKU: UPDF Officer Strangled to Death in Rice Garden

Unknown assailants have strangled to death a 60 year old UPDF soldier while he was scaring away birds from his rice field at Kapyani III village, Bwikomba parish, Nankodo Sub County in Kibuku district.

 

According to Bukedi North region acting police spokesperson ASP Kyempasa Wilfred, RA 141484 CPL Jackson Bankunda, Mukonjo by tribe attached to Bombo army barracks in Luwero district, was found dead on May 14, 2025.

 

Preliminary investigations indicate that CPL Bankunda on Monday, 13th May, 2025 at about 4:30PM went to his rice garden to scare birds, accompanied by his six-year-old granddaughter, Madina Kanyago.

 

His wife, Jane Mutesi, went the following day only to find the 6 year old squatting with a flock of birds at the position the deceased usually sat.

 

“A closer observation by the wife, revealed a lifeless body of Bankunda suspected to have been strangled to death at 4:30PM or shortly thereafter.

 

He says the police opened a case file vide Kibuku CRB 161/2025 and visited the scene, documenting evidence and recording statements from witnesses.

 

The body was taken to Kibuku mortuary pending a post-mortem examination. Investigations are ongoing to determine the circumstances surrounding CPL Bankunda death.
