Councilors from Kamuli Municipality and Kamuli District have endorsed Rt. Hon. Speaker Annet Anita Among for the position of Second National Vice Chairperson (Female) of the National Resistance Movement (NRM).
The endorsement took place during a ceremony organized by the councilors, where Speaker Among served as the chief guest ay, 21st May, 2025.
The race for the NRM Second National Vice Chairperson (Female) is gaining momentum. A group of 30 NRM district councilors and chairpersons from Kamuli, led by District Speaker Charles Mpalabule, publicly shifted their support to Annet Anita Among’s camp.
Historically, Kamuli District has been a stronghold of the incumbent Second National Vice Chairperson (Female), Rt. Hon. Rebecca Kadaga.
“Madam Speaker, this group you see here is sitting on a time bomb. Coming here was not easy. We are being intimidated, we move under fear, and our political positions are uncertain. We’re attacked on local radio stations and social media ever since it was revealed that we support you—for the development of our region,” said Charles Mpalabule.
In her remarks, Speaker Among emphasized her commitment to unity and development in Kamuli and Buyende districts, and dismissed allegations of political rivalry with her predecessor.
“I feel sorry for you and the challenges you’re facing. I wonder why people say I’m fighting Rebecca Kadaga. I never contested against her for the speakership—it was the late Jacob Oulanyah who did. I was elected Speaker after his sudden death. I’m only contesting now because the position of Second Vice Chairperson (Female) is traditionally held by a sitting Speaker,” Among clarified.
Speaker Among also took the opportunity, while meeting over 120 NRM delegates from Buyende East and West, to campaign for President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni as NRM National Chairperson and for Moses Magogo, who is seeking the position of NRM Chairperson for Buyende District.
