Uganda Wildlife Authority has dismissed a fake press release circulating on social media claiming that Ziwa Rhino Sanctuary has been closed.
A statement dated 26th June, 2025 by the UWA Communications Manager, Hangi Bashir, says the release is false, misleading and did not originate from UWA.
The statement says Ziwa Rhino Sanctuary remains open to the public and tourism activities are ongoing at the sanctuary.
“We urge the public, media, tour operators and all stakeholders to disregard the document in circulation,” says Hangi adding that the Rhino population is safe, well-protected and continues to play a critical role in Uganda’s conservation and tourism agenda.
