Captain Mike Mukula, the NRM Eastern Vice Chairperson, has issued a fiery response to Hon. Jacob Marksons Oboth Oboth’s recent accusations, reaffirming the ruling party’s commitment to inclusivity while branding his rival as a “selfish and divisive” politician.
In a strongly worded statement issued on Monday, 30th June, 2025, Mukula dismissed Oboth’s claims of tribalism and marginalization, declaring that the National Resistance Movement (NRM) is a non-sectarian, all-inclusive, and multi-ethnic party.
“NRM is broad-based—it belongs to all Ugandans, regardless of tribe or religion. We do not entertain divisive politics,” Mukula asserted. “Oboth’s allegations are not only false but also dangerous, meant to create unnecessary tension within our party.”
Mukula reiterated that the NRM encourages democratic competition but criticized Oboth for what he called “political greed,” citing the minister’s simultaneous pursuit of multiple offices—MP, Minister, and NRM Eastern Vice Chairperson.
“How can one person demand to be MP, Minister, and Vice Chair at the same time? This is not competition; it is selfishness,” Mukula said. “The people of Eastern Uganda will not reward such greed.”
He further warned that Oboth’s tactics would backfire, predicting a decisive defeat for him in the upcoming elections. “The voters are wise. They will reject those who seek to divide rather than unite,” he added.
As the race for the influential NRM Eastern Vice Chair position heats up, Mukula’s remarks underscore the high stakes involved, with the party keen on maintaining cohesion ahead of the 2026 general elections.
Political analysts say the exchange signals a fierce battle ahead, with Mukula positioning himself as a defender of NRM’s founding principles while painting Oboth as an opportunist. The outcome could reshape the party’s leadership dynamics in the region.
