The NRM Electoral Commission has cancelled elections for the Kapchorwa Woman MP, Tingey County MP, and Kapchorwa Municipality MP seats following allegations of mismanagement and corruption.

The commission Chairperson, Tanga Odoi, on Sunday, 20th July, 2025, announced that fresh elections will be conducted at a later date.

The district registrar, Akram Kamonges, was dismissed and replaced by Isaac Chepkurui. Aspirants like Susan Chemutai welcomed the move as a step toward fairer elections. The party pledges transparency and peaceful participation going forward.

The decision follows the arrest of Kamonges last week on allegations of obtaining 60 million shillings related to the ongoing NRM elections.

He says elections were muddy with election violence, voter bribery, intimidation and corruption by the NRM Electoral Commission officials at the district.

According to Frederick Chesang, the Sipi regional police spokesperson, Kamonges allegedly declared Phyllis Chemutai as District Woman MP Flagbearer and Fadil Twala as Tingey county MP seat winner respectively, despite their supposed failure to meet the required standards.

He says the arrest was made at Kapchorwa Local Government Hall on Friday 18th July, 2025. Kamonges, a resident of Kaserem Sub-County in Kapchorwa district, is currently being held at Kapchorwa Police Station pending further investigation.

Chesanga says police have urged affected candidates and their supporters to remain calm and peaceful while awaiting the outcome of the investigation.
