BUYENDE
The territorial police in Buyende are actively searching for Reverend Father Owori Silver Osuna, 33, a Catholic priest of Wesunire Parish, and Gabula Robert, a driver, to aid in investigating the suspected murder of Joseph Kirya, a 14-year-old resident of Wesunire, Makanga Ward in Buyende Town Council.
According to initial findings, Kirya allegedly stole Shs5 million from Osuna’s room. Upon discovering the missing money, Osuna and others launched a manhunt, which led to Kirya’s capture on Friday, August 1, 2025.
He was taken to the church, where he was allegedly assaulted and locked in the parish store overnight. The next morning, Osuna reported the theft to the police and asked them to pick up Kirya. However, upon arrival, the police found Kirya’s lifeless body in the store.
Michael Kasadha, Regional Spokesperson for Busoga North, says a team of detectives visited the crime scene, examined the body, and handed it over to relatives for burial.
He says further investigations are ongoing to establish more facts but condemned the acts of illegal detention and mob justice, emphasizing that only law enforcement has the legal power to detain suspects.
The police urge the public to respect the law and allow authorities to handle suspects, rather than taking matters into their own hands. This incident highlights the need for cooperation between the community and law enforcement to prevent such tragedies.
