The office of the Resident District Commissioner Bukedea has directed the arrest of the Nalugayi parish chief over disappearance of the parish development Model funds.
A sum of fifty million PDM funds disappeared from the SACCO account.
The suspect identified as David Tukei, Nalugayi parish chief was arrested today, Tuesday, 12th August, 2025
Hajji Arafat Oyo, the Bukedea Assistant Resident District Commissioner confirmed the arrest saying Tukei is accused of swindling fifty million PDM funds.
He said during the community baraza last week, about fifty PDM beneficiaries confessed that their names were used and they didn’t benefit from the program.
“We received information from Nalugayi residents that the parish chief is asking bribes and he has taken off, so as government monitors we visited the place and held community baraza whereby one Moses Mongara was arrested and today we have arrested chief Tukei to come and explain where the money has disappeared,” said Oyo.
Mr. Oyo also added that the district is increasingly receiving cases of mismanagement of PDM funds especially among local council ones and parish chiefs.
Mr. James Luyimbazi, the CAO Bukedea told this publication that his office is instructing for an immediate action.
“Its true one of the workers was arrested today at the district headquarters and being the chief monitor, action must be taken and let it be a learning warning to most of civil servants,” said Luyimbazi.
He also added that the PDM fund is a government program intended to benefit people without paying any money.
“I want to direct the commercial officer who’s the focal point person of the PDM to intervene in order to ensure that the culprits are brought to book,” said Mr. Luyimbazi.
Mary Akol Bukedea LCV chairperson promised to follow the matter until justice prevails.
“Now these persons have been arrested, I request police to play their part in ensuring that the law takes its course,” said Ms. Akol.
Emmy Lorika, DPC Bukedea said the police have opened a general inquiry file, confirming that Tukei is in their custody.
