MBALE CITY
As 2026 general election gets closer, a new political party, known as the Society for Peace and Development (SPD), has been established in Mbale City (Bugisu region) purposely to serve the people of Bugisu and surrounding regions.
The SPD is slated to be officially launched on Saturday, August 16, 2025, marking a significant development in the regional political landscape.
Abed Harshim Mwenyi, the party president told our reporter today, Friday, 15th August, 2025, that SPD is a fully registered political party that was formed in 2006.
Mwenyi said their manifesto focuses on advocating for good governance by dismantling fear-based leadership and promoting transparency, human rights, and justice for all.
The party also prioritizes infrastructural development, empowering youth and women, and advancing science and innovation.
He says after the launch, they are going to start identifying flagbearers from LC1 to Presidential position in Bugisu and Uganda at large.
