The Electoral Commission has today September 2, 2025, confirmed the nomination dates for all persons wishing to vie for various elective posts at Local government levels across the country.

The Commission’s spokesperson Julius Mucunguzi, noted that the nomination exercise of candidates for various positions at Local government council levels will run from 3-24th September 2025.
From 3-5th September, nomination of candidates for District/city chairpersons, Lord Mayor and councilors including special interest groups will take place at their respective returning officers offices in the district where they wish to contest from.
From 8-10th September 2025, nomination of candidates for Municipality/City division chairpersons and their councilors including special interest groups will take place at their respective municipalities or city divisions.
From 11-24th September 2025, nomination of candidates for Sub-county and Town Council chairpersons and councilors including special interest groups will take place at their respective Sub counties and Town councils in the district where they wish to contest from.
However, the commission has appealed to those wishing to contest for various elective positions to follow the guidelines issued by the Electoral Commission alongside the nomination forms.
Mr. Mucunguzi explained that:” “Nomination is very important because it’s the starting point for anyone who wishes to contest for any elective post in the country.
“The Commission advises all aspirants to be Law abiding, follow guidelines of the commission, treat each with respect and to avoid use of acidic language when politicking,” Mr. Mucunguzi appealed.
Mucunguzi adds that nominations are not rallies and the commission does not expect rallies and long queues of people during the nomination exercise.
