Mbale City has partnered with Elgon Museum to promote cultural norms in the Eastern region.

The two entities have organized the Elgon Festival, scheduled to kick off on Thursday, 4th September to Saturday, 7th September where different tribes, including Bagisu, Iteso, Karamojong, and Sabiny, will showcase their culture through dressing, dancing, and eating.

James Kutosi, the Mbale City Public Relations Officer, while speaking to the media in a press conference at the Elgon Museum located at Industrial City Division in Mbale City on Monday stated that the Festival aims to promote culture and tourism in the Bugisu region.

He noted that various tribes have unique ways of dressing, dancing, and eating that can attract tourists and generate revenue for Uganda, but lack promotion and exposure.

Priscilla Mungoma, the coordinator of the Elgon Festival, announced that the event will take place at Elgon Museum over the three days.

She mentioned that the festival is an annual event aimed at promoting culture and tourism, which has been low in the region.

Joel Sekajugo, an officer from the Wildlife Authority, revealed that they will take a group of people on a hike tour at Mt. Elgon National Park during the festival.

He added that they will bring various animal species to the festival for public viewing, aiming to attract people to visit Mt. Elgon National Park.

Moses Kutoyi from the Ministry of Culture at Inzu Yamasaba expressed his enthusiasm for the festival, stating it will promote culture and tourism in the Bugisu region.

He criticized the Bamasaba for not supporting local artists and instead attend concerts by Baganda musicians.

Local artists Max Money, Nofia UG, and DJ Nassa, who will perform during the festival, urged people from the region, especially Bamasaba, to attend the event and contribute to building Bugisu and promoting culture.
