A Ugandan businessman who masqueraded as a Congolese national by the names of Likambo Augustine has been remanded for allegedly scamming a Korean national of 600,000 US Dollars in a fake gold deal.
Luyima Godfrey was paraded before the KCCA Chief Magistrate’s Court today, Thursday, 4th September, 2025 for allegedly obtaining over USD 600,000 from Hyun Uk Kim, by falsely claiming he would supply him with 53 kilograms of gold.
He further presented forged documents to the victim in a bid to make the transaction appear genuine, whereas it was not.
According to the State House Anti-Corruption Unit that carried out the investigations, Luyima together with others committed the offence in September 2021, while in Kampala District.
In 2023, Balondemu David, Mkwe Eric, Mugisha James Jeff, and Maviri Godfrey were charged in the same case, but under unclear circumstances, the matter was dismissed by court. The DPP has since ordered the reinstatement of charges against all the suspects involved.
The accused has been remanded until 10th September 2025.
