Police in Buikwe district has embarked on investigations to establish the cause of a fire outbreak at Njeru Nile Market, Naava village, Njeru Central Division on Saturday, the 6th of September 2025.
According to Ssezibwa regional Police spokesperson, SP Hellen Butoto, property worth millions has been lost and two victims yet to be identified sustained injuries.
SP Butoto says that after they received the report, they rushed to the scene with the help of Police Fire brigade from Jinja, GM sugar fire brigade and Nytil fire fighter vehicle and managed to put off the fire.
“The police fire brigade rushed to the scene to ensure the fire does not spread to the surrounding areas in the market but many properties were reduced to ashes.” Said SP Butoto.
By press time, the two victims that sustained injuries had been rushed to Jinja Regional Referral Hospital for treatment as investigations into the outbreak continue.
