The National Resistance Movement (NRM) Elections Disputes Tribunal has called out the Party’s EC Chairperson, Dr. Tanga Odoi as his son’s victory as Chairperson NRM Youth League is nullified.
In a ruling delivered on Monday 8th September, 2025, the Tribunal notes that the elections that saw Tanga Collins declared winner were marred by malpractice, inconsistencies in the voters’ register, and alleged acts of intimidation that undermined the credibility of the outcome.
The sidelining of Dr. Tanga Odoi is to ‘restore confidence’ according to the Tribunal that argues that the NRM EC being a Collegiate Body is fully able to proceed without him.
According to John Musiime, chairperson NRM election dispute tribunal, after carefully reviewing evidence from petitioners, the tribunal concluded that the election did not reflect the will of the voters.
In its directive, the tribunal ordered fresh elections to be organized in line with the NRM constitution and electoral guidelines. It further barred Dr. Tanga Odoi, the party’s Electoral Commission chairperson, from participating in or overseeing the youth league polls, citing conflict of interest and the need to restore transparency.
“Dr. Tanga Odoi shall not preside or participate in any capacity in the conduct of the fresh election. The other Commissioners in the Electoral Commission shall conduct the election of Chairperson NRM Youth League,” directs the Tribunal.
“The integrity of our party processes is paramount. We cannot allow any election to be clouded by unfair practices or conflict of interest,” the tribunal noted in its decision.
The ruling has already stirred debate within NRM circles, with some members hailing it as a bold step toward accountability, while others see it as a political move aimed at weakening certain camps within the party.
The decision sets the stage for fresh youth league elections, which are expected to be closely monitored as the party seeks to rebuild confidence in its internal democratic processes.
